About the congress
The Second Argentine Congress of Agroecology, organized by the Argentine Society of Agroecology (SAAE) through the Regional Organizing Commission, was held virtually from the Chaco-region NEA, from October 13 to 15, 2021. The SAAE was established in the year 2018 with the aim of combining the work of researchers, extensionists and teachers, with the practice of farmers based on agroecological principles and other people linked to the sustainable development of the territories. Its intention is to unite the stories of struggles and hopes of various peasant and indigenous groups, academia and social movements. In compliance with its objective of promoting these principles in society, SAAE organized the First Argentine Congress of Agroecology, held in September 2019 in Mendoza. Although the venue originally chosen for the second congress was Resistencia, Chaco, from the moment the proposal was presented, the NEA region endorsed the application since there was a long shared process in the promotion of agroecology. The COVID-19 pandemic prevented the Congress from being held in person, so we set ourselves the challenge of showing in a virtual way the academic wealth and concrete practices that exist in the territories in all their diversity. With this spirit of joint construction, the Motto of the Second Congress arose: “Intertwining knowledge towards Good Living”, a phrase that highlights the importance of dialogue between the practical and ancestral knowledge of the inhabitants with that contributed by the different scientific disciplines. Likewise, the motto expresses the commitment of Agroecology in the construction of healthier and more comprehensive productive and life systems, which encompass all dimensions of life: from the productive to the artistic, taking the socio-economic, political and cultural aspects. , summarized in the “Good Living”. The objectives of the congress have been to contribute to the dissemination of advances in research, extension and education of Agroecology in Argentina; promote the exchange and integration of knowledge between researchers, teachers, extensionists, producers, consumers, organizations and social movements and various civil society actors; promote in the national scientific and academic community, teaching and research-development innovation in Agroecology; promote discussion and proposals to improve food sovereignty and achieve sustainable agri-food systems in our country.
